The Queen’s Birthday Big Lunch was held in Corby Market Place on Sunday 12th June. The weather was challenging but the event was able to go ahead with the aid of some cover with gazebos! Many thanks to the Corby Christmas Tree Fund., who organised the event.
The Big Lunch was followed by Songs of Praise at st John’s Church, in celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s 90th Birthday.
Brian Walsingham’s retirement party and presentation was held on 11th June, at Corby Fire Station. The Station was full of current and ex-fire crew, their families and friends, together with Brian & Jill’s family.
You will probably have seen coverage of plans to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday on 21st April, with over 1,000 beacons being lit across the country. Corby Glen will be part of that chain – see attached poster.
This will be the third time the beacon has been lit – it will be great to see as many people there as possible to join in with this national chain of beacons!

‘Brazil and other Stories’
Paintings by Keith Andreetti
Keith’s Artist Statement
“I started painting five years ago just before I retired, but I have always had pictures in my head. I tend to think in stories and the paintings are really scenes from those films running in my brain.
I often wish that the world could be a bit more brightly coloured so I try to help it along. When I was a boy ‘Brazil’ always conjured up the technicolour jungles of my dreams.
Since I met Teresa I have visited her country several times and it is not all quite like that! Still my Brazil is full of macaws and jaguars and even in England the animals can mostly talk.”
From Easter to November, the gallery is open every day (except Mondays) from 12-5 p.m., but will be open on Easter Monday and Bank Holiday Mondays. www.willoughbygallery.com

During Lent there will be five stand-alone study sessions that will provide an opportunity for people to come together and share in a time of Bible study, reflection and discussion.

The Lent Study Course will run twice each week:

- 7.30pm on Thursday evenings (18, 25 February; 3, 10, 17 March)
All of the sessions will be at
The Rectory, Mussons Close, Corby Glen.
The topics under consideration will be:

- Growing in prayer
- Living the Christian life
We will be marking the beginning of Lent with two services of Holy Communion:
- St John’s Church, Corby Glen at 10am on Ash Wednesday, 10 February
- St Nicholas’ Church, Swayfield at 7.30pm on Ash Wednesday, 10 February
Before each Wednesday morning Lent Study session there will be a short service of Holy Communion for those who would like to come together in worship before joining in fellowship and study.

The Queen will be celebrating her 90th birthday this year. Queen Elizabeth is both the country’s longest reigning and the oldest monarch, and celebrations are planned around the country to mark her 90th birthday on Thursday, 21st April, and over the weekend of her ‘official birthday’, with street parties on Sunday, 12th June.
Lighting Corby’s Beacon – 21st April
We have been invited by the Pageantmaster for The Queen’s 90th Birthday Beacons to include Corby Glen’s beacon in the chain of beacons to be lit across the country on 21st April, with the Queen lighting the Principle Beacon first.
This will be the third occasion our beacon has been lit: the first was for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012, and the most recent was for the 70th anniversary of VE Day in May last year. Further details to follow.
Big Lunch and Street Party – 12th June
On 12th June, an enormous street party will be held on The Mall in London, with 10,000 guests joined by the Queen. Street parties will be held across the country at the same time, and the annual Big Lunch event has been timed to be on the same day.
Corby Glen will be joining in with our own HM Queen’s Street Party and Big Lunch. Again, more details to follow!
There will be more to announce as arrangements progress. For now, make a note in your diaries!
We will need a few rehearsals to remind ourselves of the music for The Jesus Story, and I would like to encourage other singers to join us. For the Grantham and hopefully Edenham performances there will be also singers and instrumentalists from Harrowby Lane Methodist Church, Grantham.
The rehearsals are a mixture of dates beginning in February at Corby Glen Methodist Church, starting at 7.30pm.
New singers are very welcome – and you don’t have to be able to read music!
If you would like to join us, please keep these dates free and let me know your availability:
February Wed. 3, Tues. 9, Wed. 17, Tues, 23
